Sweet Summertime

After a few (or five) months of this blog being stagnant due to work and life obligations and poor planning on my part, it is finally summertime and I am free to have time to dedicate to this space again. I am excited, because I’ve missed it. I’m also excited because summer is always the time when I get to be my best self. For six or seven short weeks (whatever time period the school board decides to give us), I actually get to be a stay-at-home mom and my life gets to completely revolve around my family and home without work interrupting anything. The house actually stays clean, dinner actually gets cooked on a regular basis, and instead of spending my afternoons and nights trying to catch up with housework, I get to spend that time with Jeff when he gets home from work.

I have always wanted to be a stay-at-home mom, and when I get the chance to live that out in the summer when school is out, I take full advantage of it. Now that Jack is almost two, he and I have lots of plans for keeping our days full of fun. We’re planning to join the Summer Reading Program at our local library, and we want to go on lots of short day trips to the zoo, the Children’s Hands On Museum, and lots of fun outdoor activities at home (like “painting” the house with sidewalk chalk, which is one of Jack’s favorites right now).

We’re also planning a few trips – one to Fairhope next weekend and one to Arkansas (with a side trip to Pawhuska, where the Pioneer Woman has her Mercantile and restaurant) in July. My mother and I are huge Pioneer Woman fans, so we are looking forward to that trip and are hoping that the day we’re there will be one of the days when the Pioneer Woman herself stops in to say hi to fans (I might literally pass out if I get to meet her…).

On the blog, I’m hoping to get back to sharing regularly. You can expect to see some DIY home improvement projects, recipes, and some big events like Jack’s second birthday party. I hope you’ll follow along as we enjoy this season of slowing down and savoring family time, and hope that you will find time to do the same this summer.

What are  your plans for the summer? Let me know in the comments below.
